The Orchestra Isn't a Backdrop — It's the Engine

A lot of people come expecting the orchestra to sit at the back and add a bit of strings underneath a DJ set. That's not what this is.

At THGO, the orchestra is arranged specifically around the original productions, the basslines, the chord stabs, the piano runs that defined the classic UKG era. Our musical directors Shy Cookie and Ben Burrell spend weeks pulling apart tracks and rebuilding them so that live strings, brass and percussion carry the weight that a producer's software once did. The result is something viscerally different. You feel it in your chest before you process it in your head.

When that arrangement drops beneath a vocalist who originally sang those lines in a studio twenty-odd years ago, it hits in a way that's genuinely hard to describe. Authentic is the only word that fits.

Our DJs don't just play records between orchestral sets, they're part of the performance, blending seamlessly with the live arrangement, building and releasing tension in the way only someone who grew up in UKG culture can. The MCs, meanwhile, hold the room. They carry the lineage of the music in how they move, what they say, and how they connect with an audience that often knows every single lyric.

One of the things we're most proud of is how this concept translates from intimate indoor theatres to major outdoor festivals. The energy shifts, but the impact doesn't.

This summer, we're taking orchestral garage events to some incredible settings. Our 10th Anniversary Outdoor Festival lands at Promenade Park on Friday 5th June 2026 — a landmark moment for everyone who's been part of this journey. We're also appearing at Wilderness Festival at Cornbury Park on Saturday 1st August, and Tewinbury Festival at Tewinbury Farm on Saturday 12th September.
